Lower
Level Remodel In Vadnais Heights
The goal of this
lower level finish in Vadnais Heights was
to create a multipurpose space for
entertaining and for family time. The homeowner's wishes included
as many creative
features as possible to make their new space unique. With a space
of approximately 750 square feet, they wanted an entertainment center,
wet bar area, fireplace, a kid's play
area, and room for toy storage.
The
challenges included devising a way to adhere custom
wood shelves to the front of the mirror in the wet bar with
the strength to hold wine bottles and other accessories.
The homeowners also wanted to recreate the look of a
floating bar they had seen at their favorite restaurant.
Additionally, they wished to have a clever entrance to the
space under the stairs for a kids play area.
Our
design team worked closely with our craftsmen and the homeowners
to devise systems to achieve these goals. The
shelves attached to the mirror may look like an easy task,
but believe me, it wasn't. The shelves had to be strong
enough to hold plenty of weight, and at the same time,
they couldn't put pressure on the mirror. Plus, they had to
look nice. Using matching cabinet shelving and trim, heavy
duty dowels, and in-wall bracing, our designers and finish
carpenter was able to pull it off.
Our next challenge was to create a "stand up" bar top
area - without using legs. Fortunately, our finish carpenter also
works
with metal! He devised a cantilever system that could hold
hundreds of pounds and be hidden inside the wall. As you
can see, it looks great! And no knee knocking table legs.
Their newly finished lower level is now the talk of the
neighborhood!
